Conditions

You set the conditions. Fishing Codex reads the day against them.

You tell Fishing Codex what you can go out in — wind, swell, rain — and how much you rate what you reckon makes fish bite: the tide, the moon, the feeding window and the barometer. Every day ahead is then read against your own limits, and against each catch you actually made.

The conditions that actually matter

Ask five anglers what turns fish on and you’ll get five answers: the tide stage, the moon and its solunar majors and minors, barometric pressure on the move, the wind laying down, the swell backing off, fresh rain colouring the water. Here’s the honest bit: they can all be right, on their own water, for their own species. What loads the wharf on a spring tide flat does nothing up the estuary. There is no universal good fishing day — only the day that suits your water, your species and the boat you fish from.

Set what YOU can go out in

First, the go / no-go call. You set your own bands for the conditions that limit you, wind, swell and rain, from ideal through rough to flat-out unfishable. Fifteen knots is a write-off in a kayak and a decent day in a hardtop, so your numbers are the ones that count. A day that breaks one of your limits can never be dressed up as a good day, and the app shows you both answers side by side, the weather window first and larger, because forecasts get it wrong and you’re the one standing at the ramp.

Say how much YOU rate each reading

Then the bite call. You rate the four fish-catching readings by how much they matter to your fishing: the tide, the moon, the feeding window and the barometer. Live by the tide? Turn it up and the tide counts for most when a day is compared with a catch. Think the moon is fairy dust? Turn it down and it barely moves the needle. Every comparison in the app, in Best fishing times and on each entry, is weighted by what you rate.

Haven’t set it up? Sensible defaults apply and everything still works. It just isn’t yours yet.

Your catches beat anyone's prediction

The strongest signal isn’t a prediction at all. It’s your own record. Every catch you log stores the real conditions at that moment: tide stage, moon, feeding window, barometer and weather. Open an entry and the app compares it only with itself: each coming day is marked lined up, near or apart on every reading you rate, and the headline tells you how many of the coming days look like that catch. There is no hardcoded idea of "good", because what matters is what your fish were really caught in. Today is free; App Pro opens the days ahead.

Set your numbers once, the app does the rest

Personalise your fishing in the free app: your limits, how much you rate each reading, your species and methods. Best fishing times then reads about a month ahead against exactly that, with the first three days free and the rest with App Pro.
