About Fishing Codex

Built by a fisherman, for fishermen — your own private logbook, and real anglers' logbooks to unlock, with the exact location kept private.

The story behind it

I'm Misha, a keen angler in New Zealand, and Fishing Codex is the product I personally dreamed of having.

I wanted my whole fishing history to actually be worth something. Every place I'd ever fished, with the real tide, moon and conditions of the day I fished it — worked out for me, not half-remembered or scribbled somewhere I'd lose. Even the photos already sitting on my phone from years back: bring them in and the app works out the tide and moon for the day each one was taken.

Then I wanted it to tell me what to do next — which of my entries are worth fishing right now, when the next good window is, whether I can even get out there, and how rough it'll be when I do. And I wanted a way to earn from the fishing I was already doing: publishing entries from my own logbook, on my own terms.

What Fishing Codex is

Codex means book. This is your fishing one — every location, every catch, every condition, written down and kept. Fishing Codex is a private fishing logbook app for iOS and Android, plus fishingcodex.com, where anglers publish their logbooks and others unlock entries — each entry a real catch with its place, date, tide and conditions. The app is a free offline fishing tool — the private logbook, offline maps, worldwide tides, forecasts and catch statistics are all free. Entries unlocked or claimed on the website sync into the app automatically, exact location and all.

There's enough fish in the ocean to share — and the exact location only ever reaches the angler who unlocked or claimed the entry, which is what makes sharing possible in the first place.
